2011 Jurors

Thomas Whitlock, ASLA
President Damon Farber Associates

Thomas Whitlock has been practicing landscape architecture for eighteen years. He has an extensive history of working in Minneapolis on projects from single family residential to multi-family apartment/condominiums and from retail to mixed-use redevelopment. His designs have focused on creating quality pedestrian spaces that are unique to the context of each site. He emphasizes a collaborative philosophy that is reflected by the quality of work for which the firm has been responsible. Tom is a registered landscape architect and Past President of the American Society of Landscape Architects - Minnesota Chapter. He is president of Damon Farber Associates, a twelve-person landscape architecture firm specializing in site planning and open space development. The firm provides professional services to corporate, community and governmental clients who appreciate and understand the need for comprehensive site design services within the context of an interdisciplinary approach. Tom Whitlock’s efforts in urban design and mixed use projects have resulted in more than twenty professional planning and design awards over the past fifteen years. His approach to urban design and community based projects encourages active participation by clients, City staff and the community as vital members of a public-private partnership. Having grown up and worked in Minneapolis, Tom has a great sense of civic pride and a vested interest in maintaining and enhancing Minneapolis as a great place to live, work and play.

Jay H. Isenberg, AIA
Isenberg + Associates

JayIsenberg is a practicing architect in the Twin Cities (Isenberg + Associates) and serves as an arbitrator and mediator of design and construction related disputes as a member of the American Arbitration Association's Panel of Neutrals.   He is also a founding member of Form + Content Gallery in Minneapolis, where he has created and curated interdisciplinary public art projects and exhibitions using various materials and media that explore diverse themes emerging at the intersection of architecture with law, ethics, politics, psychology and the built and natural environments. 



Aaron Hanauer
Minneapolis City Planner

Aaron has been a city planner with the City of Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) Department for 4.5 years. His specific responsibilities include staffing the Heritage Preservation Commission, Board of Adjustment, and reviewing of new residential structures for compliance with the Minneapolis Zoning Code. Since 2006, he has reviewed over 100 residential structures to ensure compliance with the zoning code requirements and design standards. Aaron has a degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute.

Michael Zehnder
SAIC Energy, Environment & Infrastructure, LLC

Michael Zehnder is a senior Mechanical Designer for the Facilities and Design Build division of SAIC (formerly The Benham Companies).  With 15 years experience primarily focusing on remodel projects, Michael has developed a keen understanding of the value of interdisciplinary collaboration.  Project history with varied clients including private, commercial, industrial and military, many involving “Green” design components, has given Michael opportunities to emphasize function without compromising aesthetic impact.  As a lifetime resident of Minneapolis, Michael places community identity in high regard knowing that “being from Minneapolis” says more about who you are than simply where you live.
